Luda, Kanye Get Their Day In Court

Katrina and Kanye

Before I begin, let me just say that my thoughts and prayers are with the victims of Hurricane Katrina and their families. As a citizen of this country I feel it is my responsibility to help my fellow citizens when they are in need and as a result I have made my donation to the appropriate organization and I encourage each of you to do the same and give what you can.

With that said, I am about to prick few nerves and some folks aren’t going to like it, but I have to address the following topics before I pop a vessel:

While I do not advocate thievery, I suppose when a situation is dire and you have a need for supplies to survive, then I can accept doing what’s necessary within reason in order to sustain life. If people were looting to get water, food, pampers and clothing, I don’t think law enforcement or the government would have taken exception to the looting in New Orleans and probably would have allowed those essentials to be given away. But when you have people stealing from the homes of other people, loading up their F-150s with electronic equipment in an area that has no electricity, jewelry other unnecessary things, simply because it’s there and you can, you can’t really blame anyone but yourself for whatever consequence you must face for your actions.

All week I have had to listen to organizations and leaders in the black community go on and on about how the hurricane victims are “not refugees”. Perhaps referring to the victims of the hurricane as “displaced citizens” or “people who got blown away” would sit better with them and everyone else who has a problem with the word.

In the Oxford American Dictionary, the definition of a refugee is, a person who has left his home and seeks refuge elsewhere, as from war or persecution or some natural disaster.

Gosh, that would make some of the people in Louisiana refugees, wouldn’t it? Yet because the word is almost always associated with people from foreign countries and we have something between a label phobia and this arrogant American mentality that things that happen in other countries could never happen to us here, we get an attitude without first checking to see if it’s valid…

Kanye West

Nothing will get you uninvited to everything quicker than a fast lip and a slow thought. I swear, this man has single-handedly made the tantrum a personality trait. No matter who’s listening, what the arena is, you can always count on Kanye West to say or do something inappropriate in under two minutes.

While there are many of us that are emotional and want to do what we can as human beings to help our fellow man, going on national television during an event that is supposed to be about helping people, to get up on your soapbox to say the governor gave an order to shoot black people and Bush doesn’t like black people is a Disgrace.

There is a time and a place for everything. WRONG place, WRONG time!

I’m sure one of those mandatory ethics or philosophy courses in college would have covered that. I guess he missed those too!
