Fans who were expecting to see vintage Dave Chappelle on Comedy Central’s, Chappelle’s Show: the Lost Episodes, last Sunday night have to feel somewhat disappointed with the comedian’s latest offerings.

Most of the material in the “Lost Episodes” are average at best. And unlike Chappelle’s previous work, which consisted of hot button issues like race and politics, the “Lost Episodes” focuses almost entirely on Chappelle’s financial status. The only note-worthy skit from the lost season involved slain rapper Tupac Shukar.

Doug Herzog, President of Comedy Central, said that the network held out hope that Chappelle would return to finish the series, but ultimately, after it become apparent that Chappelle would not return to his top-rated perch, the decision was made to air the Lost Episodes on July 9th.

“We really didn’t want to do this without him, but we needed to bring some closure.” He added, “We did pay for the episodes, so we might as well use them. I am trying to run a business.”

The Comedy Central special was hosted by Charlie Murphy and Donnell Rawlings. The series will be released on DVD July 25.
