Eddie Murphy is having no trouble finding work in Hollywood these days, the 45-year-old actor has reportedly signed on to reprise his role of wise-cracking Detroit cop Axel Foley in the upcoming “Beverly Hills Cop IV”.

The first of the Beverly Hills Cop series made its box office debut in 1984. The movie centered around a wise-cracking city cop named Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) who finds himself in Beverly Hills to investigate the murder of a friend. While amongst Beverly Hills finest, Axel Foley wastes no time in teaching his stiff-necked counterparts some lessons in the finer arts of police investigation.

“Axel Foley is one of the great action-comedy characters, a character that Eddie loves. I’m lucky enough to help bring it back,” said producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

In addition to Beverly Hills Cop IV, Murphy has two new “Shrek” titles in the works, and is currently attached to a new sci-fi comedy called Starship Dave (2008).

Murphy’s latest box office draw, “Dreamgirls”, hits theatres on December 15th.

“Dreamgirls” is the story of three Chicago woman who form a promising singing trio called the Dreamettes. The movie stars Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy, Dannie Glover and Jennifer Hudson.
